Wanting to make a personal transportation system, I modified a Penny skateboard to be powered by an electric motor. Many factors had to be considered, such as wheel diameters, gear ratios, motor specifications, battery type, and whether these choices would still give enough clearance between the pulley system and the ground, and if the system would still provide sufficient torques. Initially a drone radio transmitter was used to control the electric skateboard. However, it was not in a form easily used while riding a skateboard, so a custom radio controller and receiver was designed using 3D printed parts and custom electronics.
